WARNING: You should STOP using and TURN OFF the computer that requires data recovery as soon as possible. Using the same hard drive needing data recovery can damage the drive further or can cause the lost data to be overwritten permanently. Overwriting data can make data recovery impossible and/or can increase the time and cost of data recovery. Incorrect attempts of data recovery can also make professional data recovery services more difficult and costly. CAUTION: If you are using the same computer or hard drive which you have lost data from, please write down our phone number 0410 628 935, turn off your PC and give us a call |

Canberra Data Recovery Diagnosis $70 - $210
Data Recovery Diagnosis costs $210 per drive for onsite diagnosis or pickup and delivery within Canberra. Diagnosis of each drive posted to our address costs $90 including return postage and packing. Special Discount of $70 applies to drop off ONLY.
Diagnosis of your drive in Canberra usually takes 3-5 working days to complete. You may also request priority service for additional cost.
Please note you also have the option to send your drive for clean room data recovery diagnosis at additional cost.
Data recovery diagnosis fees are payable when your drive is delivered to us for data recovery. Data recovery diagnosis is payable regardless of the outcome of your data recovery to cover our expertise and time to diagnose your drive, and no refunds will be given.
You will be notified beforehand of any additional charges which may apply in more complex cases such as RAID or e.g. for drives that have already been opened - where both diagnosis and recovery costs can be higher.
Aussie PC Fix diagnose each hard drive received for data recovery for up to several hours, but the scanning and analysis of your drive may sometimes take several days, so diagnosis can occasionally take longer depending on the size and condition of your drive and data.
We using proprietary software and hardware methods to recover your data and will create a full file listing of any good and/or bad files that exist on your drive. After diagnosis, we will send you these file listings along with a full quote for your data recovery.
Please note we cannot tell you the chance of recovery of any files until AFTER our diagnosis because every drive is different (and has different types and levels of damage!).
Canberra Data Recovery Costs +$140-$420
Aussie PC Fix Canberra Data Recovery Services cost between an additional $140 and $420 depending on the time, parts and expertise needed for your recovery. You will be provided a full quote and file listing after diagnosis is complete on your drive.
Aussie PC Fix will attempt to recover your data using proprietary software methods as well as our own custom software and hardware techniques. We have developed many custom data recovery processes over the years and choose the most likely to recover your data for your particular data recovery situation in the quickest possible time.
In some special circumstances, recovery fees will cost more - you will be notified during or before diagnosis if this could occur in your case.
You will be sent a quote detailing cost of data recovery and a full file listing detailing the list of files recovered from your drive. Depending on the depth of recovery needed, your data may already be recovered during diagnosis or it may take an additional 1-7 days.
Full recovery of all your data can never be guaranteed, but we of course guarantee the recovery of your files that we list as Recovered in your file listing. If within 14 days you can provide details of the critical files listed as Recovered that were paid for are not usable then you will be entitled to full or part refund. Our data recovery guarantee does not include any "Bad" or similarly listed files that we may list additionally.
Aussie PC Fix recover data from approximately 80% of all hard drives we diagnose for data recovery which do not tick or make unusual noises using our internal proprietary techniques. Out of the internal hard drives that we already know are making a noise, the percentage of recovery is lower at around 20%. This is because in these data recovery cases physical/mechanical/hardware damage has likely occurred and the drive needs to be opened up in a specialised clean room, where recovery rates are about 80-90% from our experience.
We find that external hard drives cannot be reliably diagnosed without opening up the external casing and attaching the drive directly to another computer. Though this turns out to be good news if your external drive is facing problems because we find that over 50% of beeping, noisy and 'dead' external hard drives we receive are 100% recoverable and only the external casing has failed.
When data recovery services only require the replacement of an external case, we charge a minimum of one hour labour (less any diagnosis fees already paid), plus the cost of your new external case from just $19 (for 2.5", more for 3.5").
We usually will need to copy your recovered data to another hard drive for storage, as often the original drive is unusable. We can supply you with another equivalent or larger/faster hard drive, or you may supply your own to us. If your data will fit on 1-4 DVDs we can burn these free of charge, otherwise if you want additional DVDs these will be charged at $10 per DVD.
Our advanced data recovery methods include flashing firmware (software on a chip inside that controls the drive) and programming circuit boards directly (via TTL). Occasionally we attempt data recovery by swapping good circuit boards if we determine it is at fault, but we need to find an exact or compatible model drive matching the drive requiring recovery.
Aussie PC Fix will not attempt to open hard drives (and we recommend you don't try it either!) unless specifically requested and only if the client understands the consequences of opening up a hard drive in a non-clean environment (it's very risky!).
If recovery is not possible internally by Aussie PC Fix then your drive may be sent, at your request, to an interstate professional clean room for diagnosis, see below.
For flash drives such as USB drives, and in more complex hard drive recoveries such as RAID 0 or RAID 5 or hardware recovery, diagnosis and recovery will usually incur additional charges. Chances for recovery are also unfortunately lower (also lower for floppy disks except for delete files!).
Additionally, some flash drives are required to be sent to the US for expert hardware data recovery. Data recovery through these specialists will always cost more - a similar price to clean room recovery below.
Class-100 Clean Room Data Recovery Diagnosis $70
Professional Clean Room Diagnosis costs total $70 including postage and packing.
Aussie PC Fix successfully recovers data from most hard drives we receive, but if we cannot recover your data then we are happy to send your drive to a professional clean room for diagnosis and recovery on your behalf.
You will need to make up any difference from diagnosis fees already paid before we send your drive for diagnosis, up to the total of $132 to cover our costs.
Aussie PC Fix often recover data from USB and hard drives which cannot be detected in Windows Disk Management or even BIOS, as well as hard drives making ticking, beeping, screeching, or other weird noises - but if the hard drive has a major physical fault such as a crashed head or a complete circuit board failure then the drive will likely need to be sent interstate to a Class-100 clean room laboratory for data recovery.
A class-100 clean room is a specially filtered environment that is required for safely opening hard drives, as any particle of dust inside a hard drive could ruin it when the drive is next used. Clean room data recovery experts must also use specialist tools to handle, reassemble and align your disk platters and hard drive. A Class-100 clean rooms is certified dozens of times cleaner than even an operating theatre (ER) but they are expensive to operate and do charge accordingly!
The clean room data recovery process will unfortunately cost more, but it is always in our interest to recover you data using our own methods at less charge to you.
As a data recovery partner Aussie PC Fix, you may also receive some discount off data recovery services by sending your drive to one of our data recovery partners directly using this Ontrack Form or quote Partner ID# 3166561 when calling them to receive you special pricing.
Only you can decide how much your data is worth for recovery. If you are considering sending your hard drive for clean room services through us or directly, please read further below to decide if the estimate price ranges are within your budget for recovery.
Class-100 Clean Room Data Recovery Costs +POA
Professional Clean Room Recovery is usually between POA but occasionally may fall outside this range.
Aussie PC Fix will first attempt recovery of your data using our own advanced data recovery methods (unless not requested) as we successfully recover data from most hard drives that we receive for data recovery.
If we cannot recover your data then we are happy to send your drive to a professional clean room for diagnosis and recovery on your behalf. The clean room data recovery process will unfortunately cost more, but it is always in our interest to recover you data using our own methods at less charge to you.
If our data recovery process is not successful, such as when we require a circuit board that we do not have in stock and cannot obtain it or if data recovery will not be possible without opening up your drive to replace internal parts, then we can send your drive to our data recovery partners for clean room lab diagnosis.
Data recovery diagnosis quotes usually take 2-7 days from the day we send your drive for the data recovery diagnosis.
Most quotes we receive cost between POA but occasionally quotes may fall above or below this range. Again, the clean room can only tell you their chance of recovery and provide an exact quote after they diagnose your drive. They will also send a full list of the files recovered along with the quote.
Depending on the depth of recovery needed, your data may already be recovered during diagnosis or recovery can usually take an additional 1-7 days, occasionally longer when needed in some recovery cases.
For hard drives which are sent to clean rooms (note many we have already recovery data from or some do not want the expense of clean room services), we estimate a recovery rate of around 75% but this figure is hard to calculate for various reasons out of our control.
As a data recovery partner Aussie PC Fix receive a discount off all recovery services and we share this discount with our clients (up to 15%). You may also receive a smaller discount by sending your drive to one of our data recovery partners directly using this Ontrack Form.
Onsite Data Recovery $140 per hour + $50 call out fee (Gungahlin/Mitchell = $90 call out fee)
Data recovery services (non-hardware recovery) can also be carried out on site if you prefer the drive not to be removed from your premises. Data recovery performed only onsite is not as effective as our pickup or drop-off data recovery services.
Simple diagnosis and undelete services can usually be performed within one hour service, but advanced diagnostics and recovery can take many hours. Removal of the drive or taking the computer or disk back to our workshop is usually better in all but the easiest cases.
Minimum onsite charge for diagnosis is $210 including the first hour. Additional time will be charged at our current rates of $70 per 30 minutes.
Data recovery may also take multiple visits if performed onsite as many hours of waiting may be required.
Frequently Asked Questions

What are the chances of recovering my data?
Please note we cannot tell you the chance of recovery of any files until AFTER our diagnosis because every drive is different (and has different types and levels of damage!).
How long does recovery take?
Data recovery usually takes from a few days to several weeks, each job takes a different amount of time. You will get an estimate for the time of the full recovery process after diagnosis is performed on your drive.
You can order priority service for $140 diagnosis which ensures your data is recovered as soon as possible using all available resources. Data will be recovered same day if possible but priority jobs sometimes need to take longer.
How much does recovery cost?
The cost for Aussie PC Fix data recovery diagnosis is $70-120. We cannot tell the chances of success of your recovery are until a diagnosis is performed. Diagnosis fee is payable at the time we receive your drive or computer for data recovery.
Data recovery performed by Aussie PC Fix usually costs between $140-360 after diagnosis fee. Therefore total costs for recovery are usually between $210-420 plus any call-out fees for pickup/delivery or return postage.
If your hard drive or USB drive needs to be sent to a clean room for hardware recovery then costs will be much higher. Most quotes received are between $650-1650 but can rarely sometimes be more than this.
What is your success rate for data recovery?
Aussie PC Fix recover data from approximately 80% of all hard drives we diagnose for data recovery which do not tick or make unusual noises using our internal proprietary techniques.
From the internal hard drives that we already know are making a noise, the percentage of recovery is lower at around 20%. This is because in these data recovery cases physical/mechanical/hardware damage has likely occurred and the drive needs to be opened up in a specialised clean room, where recovery rates are about 80-90% from our experience.

When data recovery services only require the replacement of an external case, we charge a minimum of one hour labour (less any diagnosis fees already paid), plus the cost of your new external case from just $19 (for 2.5", more for 3.5").
Do you have a "No Data, No Fee" policy?
Yes! After diagnosis is paid you will not have to pay for recovery if your data ends up unusable. Many files are tested after recovery, checking they are undamaged but sometimes recovery is not 100% successful and some files can be unreadable.
If you have already paid for recovery but your data is unusable, please return the equipment to us and we will either fix the access issue or you can obtain a refund.
Can you guarantee the data recovery?
Full recovery of all your data can never be guaranteed, but we of course guarantee the recovery of your files that we list as Recovered in your file listing which we will send to you along with your data recovery quote..
If within 14 days you can provide details of the critical files listed as Recovered that were paid for are not usable then you will be entitled to full or part refund. Our data recovery guarantee does not include any "Bad" or similarly listed files that we may list additionally.
For determining if your recovery job is successful, we usually deem over approximately 90% of files on the drive recovered a success, unless you notify us of specific files that are required for successful recovery.
Most data recovery is performed in house by Aussie PC Fix except in cases where a physical hard drive fault has occured and the hard drive requires hardware recovery in a clean room.
Can I get a file listing?
We will send you a file listing with your quote which will list all recovered files. Sometimes a secind list will also be sent with files that have errors or are unrecoverable.
We using proprietary software and hardware methods to recover your data and will create a full file listing of any good and/or bad files that exist on your drive. After diagnosis, we will send you these file listings along with a full quote for your data recovery.
Should I send my drive to Aussie PC Fix or directly to the clean room?
Aussie PC Fix will first attempt recovery of your data using our own advanced data recovery methods (unless not requested) as we successfully recover data from most hard drives that we receive for data recovery.
If we cannot recover your data then we are happy to send your drive to a professional clean room for diagnosis and recovery on your behalf. Data recovery diagnosis quotes usually take 2-7 days from the day we send your drive for diagnosis.
Most quotes we receive from the clean rooms cost between $700-$1600 but occasionally quotes may fall above or below this range. Again, the clean room can only tell you their chance of recovery and provide an exact quote after they diagnose your drive. They will also send a full list of the files recovered along with the quote.
As a data recovery partner Aussie PC Fix receive a discount off all recovery services and we share this discount with our clients (up to 15%). You may also receive a smaller discount by sending your drive to one of our data recovery partners directly using this Ontrack Form.
Can I reuse my drive or do I need to buy a new one?
We usually will need to copy your recovered data to another hard drive for storage, as often the original drive is unusable. We can supply you with another equivalent or larger/faster hard drive, or you may supply your own to us. If your data will fit on 1-4 DVDs we can burn these free of charge, otherwise if you want additional DVDs these will be charged at $10 per DVD.
Will my warranty still be valid with the manufacturer?
For most data recovery services, yes your warranty will still be valid if you need to return your drive for warranty purposes! Usually hard drives do not require openning up for data recovery, but in any case we will contact all customers before breaking any seals on drives or other computer equipment which could invalidate any warranty.
Aussie PC Fix do not usually open up hard drives for hardware data recovery (only if specifically requested - this should only be done in a clean room, which do not exist in Canberra) so only in very rare cases would there be risk in voiding your warranty, such as if we swap circuit boards on your hard drive to attempt recovery.
Recovery partners used by Aussie PC Fix use Class 100 clean rooms for hardware data recovery and are manufacturer certiified for the purposes of data recovery. This means they are certified to open up your hard drive and keep your warranty intact.
For external hard drives, warranty issues are not so clear. We swap faulty hard drive cases each week to repair hard driver for customers and if your external drive is faulty there is a good chance that swapping the external casing can bring your hard drive back to life, but occasionally external cases will have warranty stickers stating that the warranty will be void if broken.
You will need to check if your external hard drive has one of these stickers and read the manufacturers terms and conditions to see if opening up your particular drives casing (not the actual hard drive itself!) would invalidate your warranty. Although it is not even clear whether the warranty would be void for the case or the entire drive, this sticker may not even be valid. The reason being that these types of stickers are not legally valid if placed on a computer system as the user is allowed to upgrade their own computer, and the same can be applied to external hard drives.
I have confidential data on my drive. Is it secure?

We have over five years of data recovery experience locally in Canberra so you can be sure your data is in safe hands.
Aussie PC Fix specialise in software data recovery and will provide a better price for this service compared to others who need to maintain an expensive clean room. But if after diagnosis we determine advanced hardware/physical recovery is required then we also have partnerships with several data recovery specialists around Australia and can offer you a discount.
Aussie PC Fix will not open any hard drives to ensure best chance of recovery – and we suggest you don't try opening your drive up either!
Hardware / Mechanical / Physical / Electronic Data Recovery
Hard Drive Failure / Head Crash $650-$1650+
If your hard drive does not power up properly or is making unusual noises then this could indicate a physical or mechanical error with the drive, which usually cannot be repaired without opening the drive. Unusual noises your hard drive can make include clicking, clunking, grinding or knocking noises. The hard drive may also just become noisier, but usually we know something is physically wrong if we can hear it! Other signs of physical failure include start-stop-start of the drive or intermittent access, strange pauses or hanging or freezing in Windows.
In some cases we are able to recover data from these hard drives using advanced software recovery, but in most cases more expensive hardware recovery is required.
The hardware recovery procedure must be performed in a special air filter room called a 100 class clean room that is dozens of times cleaner than a hospital operating room. The expert data recovery specialists need to wear space-like protective suits because any speck of dust that may get into the hard drive would cause more problems. This environment is expensive to set up and maintain, and the data recovery experts also need to use specialist equipment so this procedure can unfortunately get expensive very quickly.
Hard disk drives are very precise mechanical devices - the actual disks spin inside thousands of times per second within nanometres (nm, millionths of 1 metre) of the read/write head. The drive heads are like a needle on a record player but the head must not actually touch the spinning disk otherwise a hard disk crash occurs!
Aussie PC Fix can offer you a discount of up to 15% for these services because of our relationships with data recovery partners. Aussie PC Fix only use hard drive manufacturer certified recovery centres which are located in Brisbane and Sydney, with local Canberra drop off or pickup available through us.
Most hardware recovery jobs sent to a clean room cost around $650-$1650, but sometimes advanced hardware recovery can cost one thousand dollars and more. You are given an obligation free quote and if data recovery is ultimately not chosen then your drive will be sent back to Canberra free of charge.
Aussie PC Fix also examines all disks before sending away to save you costs in the event that specialist hardware recovery is not actually required.
Deleted/lost files and formatted/lost partitions
Deleted files and lost data can usually be recovered within 24-48 hours providing that it has not yet been completely overwritten. Aussie PC Fix uses advanced software methods and data recovery programs using Windows and Linux to extract your data without writing to the drive ensuring the best chance to recover or unerase your data.
Whether the files are damaged due to accidental deletion, virus attack, or the files simply just disappeared, Aussie PC Fix can help you get your data back quickly, and at a reasonable cost. We often recover data from hard drives after other companies have unsuccessfully tried to do so.
Files are not actually deleted when you click on delete or empty the recycle bin, it is only their index entry that gets changed saying "file is ok to overwrite" and the actual overwriting may occur at any time.
You may work for months without the data being written over, or it could happen the next time you save a file or even start up Windows. Recovering data after the file has been written over with new data is quite a challenge and often it requires costly equipment which is prohibitively expensive.
Hard drives can also become infected with hard to remove viruses or root kits which need expert virus removal.
Depending on what has changed on the disk recovery could be easy and all of the files are recovered instantly, other times not all data may be recoverable and data recovery can take a lot of time (days or weeks) and many hours of labour using advanced data recovery techniques.
After diagnosis, you will be sent a full file listing of data recovered from your drive to decide whether you want to go ahead with data recovery.
To make sure your most important data has priority during data recovery, please provide us with a list of the important files, e.g. via our Online Booking Form. This should list as many details you can remember about the files/data to recover - especially its name, file type (e.g. ".doc" / Word Document), and the locations of folders/directories the files were in, as well as any relevant dates and details you can provide.
![]() |
WARNING: lf you download basic free undelete software from the Internet, please do not download to, install, or even use the hard drive with recoverable data! By using and writing to the same hard drive, this may overwrite the exact files you are trying to recover and make recovery much harder or impossible. |

Windows Boot Failure / Corrupt files / Missing Drive
Sometimes Windows will not start up or the hard drive refuses to boot up, e.g. with a Missing NTLDR error. This is often caused by corrupt or missing startup files on the hard drive which often just need to be replaced, but sometimes a boot failure may be more serious and is caused because the hard drive is physically scratched or failing.
We can often recover files and data from your hard drive or USB drive even if the drive does not receive a drive letter in Windows or the drive asks to be formatted, or it does not even show in Disk Management.
Sometimes data can be quickly recovered on drives that do not show up properly in Windows, or do not appear in Windows at all. By using specialised software techniques we can often recover data in these cases without expensive hardware recovery.
Once data recovery is complete, the health of the hard drive should be examined and if any vital signs are low then the entire drive should be immediately backed up to an alternate disk drive. Windows can also show errors or warnings during startup - if it warns you of S.M.A.R.T. hardware failure, then please backup and replace the hard drive immediately!
Corrupt files can be very difficult to process and recover because part of the file is missing which can make it hard to identify, let alone open up to read in the associated application. We can use automated software techniques to analyse your data and extract the recoverable information.
STOP errors 0x0000002E 0x00000077 0x0000007A 0x000000ED 0xC0000221 are common Windows Blue Screen errors which can indicate hard drive errors or file corruption.
